Bullied Jaipur girl begged 18-months for help before suicide: Probe
What's the story
A Class 4 student of Neerja Modi School in Jaipur, who died by suicide weeks ago, was subjected to continuous bullying for 18 months, a probe has found. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) probe revealed that classmates used "bad words" against her and the school administration failed to intervene despite repeated pleas by her parents. The nine-year-old girl, identified as Amaira, jumped from the fourth floor of the school building on November 1.
Neglected pleas
School ignored 18 months of bullying complaints
According to the report, the girl approached her class teacher, Puneeta Sharma, for help for nearly 18 months but was dismissed. Instead, she was scolded and told to "adjust" with her classmates everytime, the CBSE report said. On the day of her suicide, Amaira pleaded with Sharma for over 45 minutes but received no help. "She was seen shouting multiple times and said things that 'shocked the entire class,'" the report added.
Documented abuse
Bullying incidents detailed in CBSE report
The CBSE report documented several bullying incidents. In October 2025, a boy misquoted Amaira as saying "I love you" to him when she had only said "hello." When her father complained, Sharma advised that Amaira "needs to adjust with other kids." In May 2024, Amaira's mother reported a child showing her the middle finger but received no response from the teacher. Her parents have alleged she was bullied, teased and verbally abused with "sexual connotations."
Parents
'Please get me out of here'
In July, a different boy had hit her but the teacher did not take any action. Days later, Amaira returned home, crying. "I don't want to go to school. Everybody troubles me. Please get me out of here," the child said. Extremely worried, the parents approached teachers and class coordinators at least three times each but received little support. They also tried to transfer her to another school in March 2025 but were unable to get admission.
Unheeded requests
Parents' pleas for support went unanswered
On the day of her death, some boys had written or created something on a digital slate, which left Amaira disturbed. She appeared embarrassed and was "puzzled and surprised," according to the report, and she asked them to stop or remove what had been written. "Amaira approached the teacher five times and pleaded continuously in the last 45 minutes for support but was not offered...help. Amaira felt cornered and harassed by classmates and had no support," the report said.
Official notice
CBSE issues notice to school over gross violations
The CBSE report also noted that school authorities washed the area where Amaira fell before forensic analysis could be conducted, destroying potential evidence. The CBSE has issued a notice to the school manager over "gross violations" and prolonged harassment of the student. The board has sought a response from the school within 30 days.
