Sridevi funeral: Salman Khan, Hema Malini, Akshaye Khanna pay tribute
The who's who of the Indian film industry was seen heading to the Celebration Sports Club in Mumbai this morning, where Sridevi's mortal remains have been kept. Visitors included Salman Khan, Hema Malini, Farah Khan and Akshaye Khanna. Her cremation will take place at 3:30pm in the Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium. Before that, people can pay their last tributes to her till 12:30pm.
Sridevi's body was brought to India yesterday, three days after she died at a Dubai hotel on the night of February 24. The family was in Dubai to attend nephew Mohit Marwah's wedding. On Saturday, her husband Boney Kapoor, who had reportedly flown in from India to surprise her, found her lying motionless in her hotel room bathtub.
Initial reports attributed the death to a cardiac arrest, but forensics revealed that it had happened due to 'accidental drowning.' In Dubai, any death outside a hospital has to be thoroughly probed by law. Investigators questioned hotel staff and some others. Boney Kapoor and Mohit Marwah also spoke to police. Dubai police released her body yesterday, a day later than initially planned.
Today, top members of the film fraternity including Sanjay Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and sister Rhea, Esha Deol, Urvashi Rautela and Arbaaz Khan paid their last respects. Fans were seen standing in long lines outside the venue with banners and flowers. There was heavy security deployment while she was being transported to the venue as well as at the Celebration Sports Club.
