World's 1st autonomous shipyard coming up in India
Sagar Defence Engineering is launching the world's first shipyard just for building and testing autonomous ships and underwater vehicles, right at Andhra Pradesh's Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbor.
The 29-acre site, with direct access to the Bay of Bengal, will feature cutting-edge R and D labs, a training hub, and facilities for building high-tech unmanned vessels powered by robotics and AI.
The project will create around 750 jobs
This project puts India on the global map for maritime tech: think self-driving ships used for security, mapping, and logistics.
Construction kicked off with a foundation ceremony in March 2026, and full operations are expected by late 2026.
Besides cool tech, it'll create around 750 jobs and help boost India's defense self-reliance, a big deal if you're into innovation or future careers in tech.
