What to eat before and after your Yoga sessions
  • Yoga has gained massive popularity around the world, in the past couple of decades.

And why not? It has shown to improve posture, enhance flexibility, bust stress and anxiety, and improve sleep quality.

If you regularly perform Yoga- thumbs up! But are you sure you are eating the right food items before and after your Yoga sessions?

Here's what you should and shouldn't eat.

Before Yoga: What you should eat
  • Firstly, it is crucial to stay aptly hydrated before you start practising. So, drink enough water before you start your session.

Also, eat a small snack 60-90 minutes before your session.

Some of the best options are a banana or a handful of berries or a protein shake.

If you're really short on time, grab a glassful of almond milk/juice.

  • Don't eat

  • Avoid drinking a lot of caffeine before your session, especially if you've had a cup or two of tea/coffee through the day. We say so because caffeine is dehydrating, thus it isn't a great choice before performing Yoga.

Also, never eat a big meal before your session. A full stomach would make it difficult for you to get into Yoga poses. Hence, eat light.

After Yoga: What you should eat

  • Once you are done with your Yoga session, grab a couple of glasses of electrolyte water or coconut water. This will help replenish your body and prevent dehydration.

Also, eat a nutritious and filling meal after your session.

After morning sessions, try having an omelette with lots of veggies.

In case of evening sessions, have grilled salmon and veggies for dinner.

  • Don't eat

After Yoga: What you should not eat

  • After a sweaty Yoga session, don't uncork a wine bottle or grab a pint of beer. Because if you end up doing so, you are risking yourself for dehydration, which might bring along mild to severe headaches.

Also, avoid indulging in your love for sugars. And even if you're going to have some, make sure it's unrefined sugar such as an oatmeal.
