What's the story

Losing your Permanent Account Number (PAN) card can be a hassle, but recovering it is a straightforward process. The PAN card is an important document for financial transactions in India. Fortunately, the government has made it easy to get a duplicate card in case of loss. Here are the steps you need to follow to recover your lost PAN card without any hassle.

Step 1

File a police report

The first step after losing your PAN card is to file a police report. This serves as an official record of the loss and protects you from potential misuse of your card. Visit your local police station and provide them with details about the loss. Make sure to keep a copy of the FIR (First Information Report) for future reference.

Step 2

Apply for reissue online

Once you have filed the police report, you can apply for a reissue of your PAN card online. Visit the official website of NSDL or UTIITSL, and fill out Form 49A. Make sure to select the Reprint of PAN card option while filling out the form. You will need to provide details like your Aadhaar number and contact information.

Step 3

Pay required fees

To get your PAN card reissued, you need to pay a nominal fee of ₹107 (inclusive of taxes). This fee can be paid via net banking, credit and debit cards, or through authorized bank branches. After making the payment, you will receive an acknowledgment number. This number is important, as it allows you to track the status of your application online, ensuring a smooth process.

Submit necessary documents

Along with your application form, you will have to submit certain documents. These include a copy of your FIR and proof of identity or address (like Aadhaar or voter ID). Make sure all documents are self-attested before uploading them to the website.

Step 5

Track application status online

After submitting your application and documents, you can track its status online using the acknowledgment number provided during submission. The website will give you updates on whether additional information is required or when your new PAN card will be dispatched.
