Bihar: NDA heads for landslide victory, leads in 200+ seats

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is headed for a landslide victory in Bihar, with the coalition leading in over 200 seats in the 243-member assembly. According to Election Commission data, the BJP currently leads in 91 seats, followed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JDU in 81 seats, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) in 21, and Hindustani Awam Morcha in five seats.

Mahagathbandhan trailing way behind 

In comparison, the Mahagathbandhan is leading in just 36 seats. Tejashwi Yadav's RJD was leading in 26 seats, AIMIM in five seats, and the Congress was leading in just four seats, the same as the Rashtriya Lok Morcha and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) - CPI(ML)(L). In another massive setback for the opposition, Tejashwi was trailing by over 3,000 votes in Raghopur.

Exit polls predicted NDA win 

Most exit polls had already predicted a win for the NDA. Thirteen exit polls forecast that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance will retain power, with the BJP emerging as the single-largest party. The poll of polls predicted that the NDA will secure over 147 seats while opposition parties will get 90 seats in Bihar's 243-seat House.

Tejashwi confident of winning

Tejashwi, however, said he was confident his alliance will win. He was leading from his family stronghold, Raghopur, Bihar, in early trends. "We are going to win. Thanks to everyone. A change is about to come. We are forming the government," he said. To recall, his party, the RJD won 75 seats in 2020, emerging as the single largest party.

Highest voter turnout 

The 2025 election set a new benchmark for the highest turnout since 1951. The state's highest voter turnout to date, at 66.91%, was achieved during the two-phase elections that concluded on November 11. Additionally, Bihar saw its highest female voter turnout in its history. The number of women who voted was 71.6%, while the number of males who voted was significantly lower at 62.8%.
