Bihar election result: Tejashwi Yadav leading in family bastion Raghopur
What's the story
Mahagathbandhan's chief ministerial face, Tejashwi Yadav, is leading from his family stronghold, Raghopur, Bihar, in early trends. He is up against BJP's Satish Kumar Yadav, who defeated his mother, Rabri Devi, in the 2010 election as a JDU candidate. AAP's Raju Kumar is also in the race. Tejashwi has represented the seat since 2015. In 2020, he won the seat by more than 38,000 votes.
Election
'Change is about to come'
Ahead of the vote counting, Tejashwi expressed confidence in his alliance's victory. "We are going to win....A change is about to come. We are forming the government," he said. The RJD is facing off against the ruling alliance led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The RJD is in an alliance with the Congress, a Left front, and Mukesh Sahani's Vikassheel Insaan Party. Sahani is the Mahagathbandhan's deputy chief minister face.
Poll predictions
Exit polls forecast comfortable victory for BJP-JDU alliance
Despite Yadav's confidence, exit polls have predicted a comfortable victory for the BJP-JDU alliance. Thirteen exit polls forecast that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance will retain power, with the BJP emerging as the single-largest party. The predictions indicate that NDA will secure 147 seats while opposition parties will get 90 seats in Bihar's 243-seat House.
