BJP trolls Karnataka CM tussle with 'musical chair' AI video
What's the story
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a jibe at the ruling Congress party in Karnataka, mocking the ongoing tussle over the chief minister's post. The BJP released a parody video on social media platform X, depicting a game of musical chairs with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Satish Jarkiholi, and G Parameshwara. The video was captioned "Countdown to November Revolution begins," poking fun at what the BJP describes as the Congress's "power struggle disguised as governance."

Siddaramaiah dismisses leadership change rumors
Speculations are rife about a change in leadership in the state when the Congress government reaches the halfway mark of its five-year term in November, which is being referred to by some as the "November revolution." But Siddaramaiah has repeatedly dismissed rumors of a potential leadership change in Karnataka. He said, "We must all obey the party high command. I will continue as chief minister for five years," while speaking in Mysuru on Wednesday.

Final phase of his political career
However, in a key development, Siddaramaiah's son and MLC Yathindra said his father is in the "final phase of his political career." "At this stage, he needs a leader with a strong ideology and a progressive mindset whom he can be a 'margdarshak' (mentor) to. Jarkiholi is someone who can uphold the Congress party's ideology...I firmly believe that finding a leader with such ideological conviction is rare, and I wish he continues this good work," he said last month.

Fight for CM post
After the assembly election results in May 2023, there was fierce competition for the position of chief minister between Siddaramaiah and his deputy, DK Shivakumar. In the end, the Congress convinced Shivakumar to settle for the deputy chief minister post. Some reports at the time said that a compromise had been made based on a "rotational chief minister formula," under which Shivakumar would become CM after two and a half years, but this has not been officially confirmed.
