BJP slams Lalu Yadav for celebrating Halloween with grandchildren
What's the story
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for celebrating Halloween with his grandchildren. The criticism was aimed at Yadav's earlier remark on the Maha Kumbh Mela, which he had called "faltu" or meaningless. The party said that "those who attack faith will not get votes from the people of Bihar."
Social media post
RJD leader's daughter posted videos, pictures of celebrations
Rohini Acharya, Yadav's daughter and a leader of the RJD, had posted videos and pictures of the Halloween celebrations on social media. "Happy Halloween to everyone," she had captioned the post, which was made on October 31. The visuals showed Yadav playing and clicking pictures with his grandchildren, who were in their Halloween costumes.
Party statement
BJP Kisan Morcha's official handle targeted Yadav in post
The official handle of the BJP Kisan Morcha (BJPKM) had posted a message targeting Yadav. It read, "Don't forget, people of Bihar, this is the same Lalu Yadav who had called the grand festival of faith and spirituality Maha Kumbh useless and is now celebrating the festival of Halloween." The post also said that those who attack faith will not get votes from Bihar's people.
Controversial statement
Yadav earlier called Kumbh Mela 'faltu'
In February, Yadav had sparked a controversy with his comment on the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. He had called it "faltu" while commenting on a stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station that killed 18 people. The BJP had then criticized him for his remarks, alleging they reflected the RJD's attitude toward Hinduism. Bihar BJP spokesperson Manoj Sharma had said Yadav's comments were due to his politics of appeasement and insulted Hindu sentiments.
