Congress slams Centre over killing of ex-serviceman in Ladakh protests
What's the story
The Congress party has slammed the central government for its handling of recent protests in Ladakh, which resulted in the death of an ex-serviceman. Jairam Ramesh, Congress's communications in-charge, identified the deceased as Tsewang Tharchin, who had served at Siachen Glacier. "Tsewang Tharchin, an ex-serviceman, had served at the Siachen Glacier and fought valiantly in the Kargil War. His father too had served in the Indian Army," Ramesh wrote on X.

Ramesh said Tharchin was "protesting peacefully" for Ladakh's inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution when he was killed. He called it a matter of "deepest anguish and outrage." Meanwhile, curfew remained in force in Leh for the sixth-straight day after protests had turned violent last week. The other three victims were identified as Stanzin Namgyal (24), Jigmet Dorjay (25), and Rinchen Dadul (21).
