Ottakarathevar Panneerselvam, also known as O.P.S., is an Indian politician who served as the second Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from August 21, 2017 to May 6, 2021. He has served three terms as the 6th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 2001-2002, 2014-2015, and 2016-2017. From May 11, 2021, he is serving as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Panneerselvam is also the chief coordinator of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). In 1969, he started his political career as a DMK worker and later joined the AIADMK in 1973 after MG Ramachandran split from the DMK. He has also served as the Chairman of Periyakulam Municipality from 1996-2001. Panneerselvam was a loyal supporter of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary J. Jayalalithaa. His first two terms as a Chief Minister came when the Supreme Court barred Jayalalithaa from holding the post and she was forced to resign. Panneerselvam’s third term started following Jayalalithaa’s death.
