RaGa calls Yeddyurappa swearing-in a 'mockery' of the Indian Constitution
  • Congress President Rahul Gandhi, after a brief period of silence, has now hit out at the BJP, calling its "irrational insistence" on forming the government a "mockery" of the Indian Constitution.

Gandhi had been silent on the power game in Bengaluru ever since the results came out, and his attack on Twitter came only after Yeddyurappa was invited to form the government.

Rahul Gandhi slams the BJP on Twitter

  • The BJP’s irrational insistence that it will form a Govt. in Karnataka, even though it clearly doesn’t have the numbers, is to make a mockery of our Constitution.

This morning, while the BJP celebrates its hollow victory, India will mourn the defeat of democracy.

  • Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala's decision to invite Yeddyurappa to form the government had incited an angry Congress to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court.

In a rare late night hearing, the SC refused to stop the swearing-in ceremony and posted the matter for hearing on Friday.

Meanwhile, RaGa's tweet slamming the BJP didn't go unanswered as Amit Shah came out all guns blazing.

  • The ‘Murder of Democracy’ happens the minute a desperate Congress made an ‘opportunist’ offer to the JD(S), not for Karnataka’s welfare but for their petty political gains. Shameful!

  • Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's comment on the murder of democracy, BJP chief Amit Shah was also quick to highlight the Congress's blemished track record when it came to upholding democracy.

Pointing out the "horrific Emergency, blatant use of Article 356", and the Congress's history of "subverting the courts, media, and civil society", Shah said that democracy is the last thing RaGa should talk about.
