Rahul Gandhi meets Kharge to discuss Congress's Bihar electoral loss
What's the story
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge met in Delhi on Saturday to analyze the recent Bihar assembly election results. The meeting was attended by AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, party treasurer Ajay Maken, and AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, according to PTI. This comes after the Congress had a dismal performance in the elections, winning only six out of 61 seats contested.
Blame game
Congress blames Election Commission for Bihar defeat
Venugopal has blamed the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the party's poor performance, alleging a lack of transparency in the poll process. He said, "The entire poll process is questionable and there is no transparency." Venugopal further claimed that this result was unbelievable, not just for Congress but also for their alliance partners in Mahagathbandhan.
Evidence gathering
Congress to present evidence against ECI
Venugopal said that the party is collecting data from across Bihar and will present concrete proof within a week or two. He alleged that the election process was "completely questionable" and claimed that the ECI is "totally one-sided." The Congress had earlier alleged "vote chori on a gigantic scale," suggesting involvement of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and the ECI.
Fairness concerns
Gandhi questions fairness of Bihar elections
Gandhi had earlier called the Bihar election results surprising and claimed that they were not fair from the beginning. He said, "The election was not fair from the very beginning, and that is why the party could not achieve anything much." The Congress and its INDIA bloc allies are expected to conduct a detailed analysis of these results soon.
