Taking the political discourse in the country to a new low, a Samajwadi Party spokesperson got into a scuffle with a Bharatiya Janata Party leader on live television, after which he was detained by Noida police on Saturday.

Things got ugly during a panel discussion for a channel when SP spokesperson Anurag Bhadouria lost his cool on BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia.

The party leaders were debating, then started the scuffle

Subsequently, Bhatia filed a police complaint at Noida Sector 20 police station and authorities swung to action.

"While I was part of the panel discussion... he (Bhadouria) manhandled me, physically assaulted me and threatened me of consequences," Bhatia's complaint read.

SP loyalists protest after police action, blame Bhatia

After Bhadouria was detained, dozens of SP workers, led by MP Surendra Singh Nagar, staged a sit-in protest outside the police station.

"During the show, Bhatia aggressively marched towards Anurag to assault him. Our spokesperson raised his hand in order to defend himself," Nagar said.

He added Bhatia called the police and that they didn't know what sections were evoked in the case.
