Congress leaders resign, urge Rahul Gandhi to choose new team
Even as Rahul Gandhi seems determined to quit as the Congress President after the Lok Sabha poll debacle, several Congress leaders have resigned from their party positions to give him a "free hand" to choose a new team. Following Congress's Law and RTI department Chairman Vivek Tankha's resignation on Thursday, many leaders in Delhi, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh quit from their posts. Here's more.

"We all should submit our resignations from party positions and give Rahulji a free hand to choose his team... Party cannot afford a stalemate for too long," Tankha tweeted on Friday. "Rahulji, please make drastic changes to revive the party as a fighting force. You have the commitment and determination. Just cobble a good, acceptable and influential nation-wide team," he added.

Delhi Congress Working President, Rajesh Lilothia, quits from the post
Hours after Tankha resigned, Delhi Congress Working President, Rajesh Lilothia, who had contested from North West Delhi in the recent Lok Sabha elections, resigned from the post on Friday. Meanwhile, AICC Secretary Virender Rathore, Haryana Women Congress chief Sumitra Chouhan, General Secretary Netta P Sangma (Meghalaya), Haryana Secretary Satyavir Yadav, Chhattisgarh Secretary Anil Chaudhary, and Madhya Pradesh Secretary Sudhir Chaudhary have also resigned.
Congress dissolved district committees if its Uttar Pradesh unit
Earlier this week, the Congress had dissolved district committees of the party's Uttar Pradesh unit. The party also constituted a three-member disciplinary panel to look into anti-party activities and gross indiscipline during Lok Sabha polls. Congress won only 52 seats and suffered a massive defeat in the recent elections. The Congress President himself lost in UP's Amethi; however, he was elected from Kerala's Wayanad.
Rahul determined to resign as the chief of Congress
After the election results were declared, Rahul announced his decision to resign from the post of Congress President. The Congress Working Committee (CWC), however, wants Rahul to continue as the party chief. He made it clear to Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Thursday that he wants to quit. A CWC meeting will be convened to decide on the party's new president, said sources.
