Sushil Kumar Shinde: News

Sushil Kumar Shinde is an Indian National Congress (INC) politician and former Member of Parliament (MP) from Maharashtra. He did his BA (Hons.) from Dayanand College and LLB from Shivaji University. He started out as a Bailiff in the Solapur sessions court, and a few years later, worked as a sub-inspector in Maharashtra Police. Shinde joined politics in the early 1970s with INC and first contested in the Maharashtra Assembly elections in 1974, winning from the Karmala constituency. He was re-elected consecutively in 1978, 1980, 1985 & 1990 elections, and served as the Finance Minister in the state government. Between 1992 and 1998, Shinde served as a Rajya Sabha MP. He won successive elections to the Lok Sabha in 1998 and 1999. Shinde again became a Maharashtra MLA in 2003, this time serving as the state’s Chief Minister till 2004. He was the Governor of Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2006. During the UPA-II Government, he served as the Union Minister for Power (2006-12) and Minister of Home Affairs (2012-14). Shinde retired from electoral politics in 2019.
