Alphabet's Gemini AI is joining the US defense team
The US Department of Defense just picked Alphabet's Gemini for Government system to bring artificial intelligence tools to almost three million military and civilian staff.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called out how important AI has become in modern warfare, especially for analyzing videos and images.
The Pentagon says this move will usher in an "AI-driven culture change that will dominate the digital battlefield for years to come."
Google's growing role with the military
This isn't Google's first big defense project—back in July, Google Cloud landed a $200 million contract for AI tech from the Pentagon, joining other tech giants like OpenAI and xAI.
Right now, Google is already working with the Navy, Air Force, and Defense Innovation Unit.
Plus, they're developing AI-powered smart glasses that could launch as soon as 2026.
