Amazon drone delivery hits a snag with federal investigation

Technology

Amazon's drone delivery program in Waco, Texas, is getting some extra attention after one of its drones accidentally clipped an internet cable while ascending after a delivery.
The FAA is now investigating, but thankfully no one was hurt.
This comes just as Amazon is pushing to make super-fast drone deliveries more common—even as Walmart ramps up its own competing service.

How Amazon and Walmart are handling the drone race

Amazon says the drone made a "safe contingent landing" and that it paid for fixing the cable.
Their service, which kicked off in 2022, promises packages at your door within an hour and aims to deliver 500 million parcels a year by 2030.
Meanwhile, Walmart has been flying its own drones since 2021.
Despite this hiccup and some regulatory bumps, Amazon's still expanding to new neighborhoods—and both companies are betting big on drones for speedy shopping.
