Amazon's Alexa+ greetings: Your door just got smarter

Technology

Amazon just dropped Alexa+ Greetings for Ring doorbells, blending Ring's video smarts with Alexa's conversational AI.
Now, your doorbell can spot what visitors are wearing or carrying and respond in real time—like telling delivery folks where to leave packages or even directing delivery drivers to water or snacks you've left out.

What can it actually do?

Alexa+ Greetings handles package signatures, politely turns away sales reps, and pings your family when you're not home.
It works with the latest Ring Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) and Wired Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen), but you'll need a Ring Premium Plan and Video Descriptions turned on.
Right now, it's rolling out to early access users in the US and Canada (English only).

How does it recognize people?

Instead of remembering faces, Alexa+ Greetings uses video descriptions to figure out who's at the door—so it won't store anyone's identity.
Just a heads up: sometimes uniforms can confuse it, so your friend in a delivery shirt might get treated like an actual courier.
