Android 16 brings desktop mode to Pixel phones
Pixel users, here's something cool—Android 16 now lets you turn your Pixel 8 or newer into a desktop-style setup just by plugging it into a monitor.
You get a taskbar, app launcher, and resizable windows, plus you can use apps like Chrome and Docs with a keyboard and mouse.
Even better, your phone screen stays free for other stuff while you work or play.
How to try it out
To get started, make sure your Pixel is running Android 16 QPR1 beta or later.
Connect it to a monitor using a USB-C hub or HDMI adapter that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode.
Then unlock Developer Options in Settings (just tap the Build number seven times), switch on "Enable desktop experience features," reboot your phone, and reconnect.
Pairing a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse gives you the full desktop vibe—while still being able to use your phone as usual.
