Anthropic pauses planned June 15 token pricing for Claude SDK
Anthropic just hit pause on its plan to switch the Claude Agent SDK to a token-based pricing model, which was supposed to kick in on June 15, 2026.
For now, users can stick with their current weekly usage caps based on subscription tiers, definitely a more wallet-friendly option than what was proposed.
Anthropic says it is "working to update the plan to better support how users build with Claude subscriptions."
Claude Agent SDK launched last September
The Claude Agent SDK, launched last September, is a go-to tool for anyone building custom AI agents or using apps like Claude Code.
The planned pricing shift had people worried about higher costs, especially since Microsoft's similar move with GitHub Copilot wasn't exactly popular.
For now, it's business as usual while Anthropic figures out a better approach.
