Anthropic sues US government over $200 million DoD contract
Anthropic, an AI safety company, is suing the US Department of Defense after its $200 million Defense Department contract became jeopardized.
Anthropic says the Pentagon retaliated because it refused to build AI for mass surveillance and fully autonomous weapons.
The Pentagon said it would phase out use of Anthropic's technology for defense purposes over six months.
40 AI researchers have signed an open letter
This isn't just about one company: nearly 40 OpenAI and Google employees are backing Anthropic, warning that military use of AI could lead to real time mass surveillance and risky autonomous weapons making decisions without humans.
They're calling for stronger safeguards as this tech rolls out fast, saying what happens now could shape how safe (or invasive) AI becomes in our daily lives.
