Apple's Edge Light turns your Mac into a virtual ring light

Technology

Apple is rolling out Edge Light with the upcoming macOS Tahoe 26.2 update—a clever feature that turns the edges of your Mac's screen into a virtual ring light.
The goal? Better, more balanced lighting on your face during video calls, especially when you're in a dim room, without messing up how your background looks.

How Edge Light works

Edge Light uses the Neural Engine in Apple Silicon Macs to find your face and tweak lighting in real time.
On Macs from 2024 onward, Edge Light can automatically activate in low-light conditions; the feature itself is available on all Apple Silicon Macs (and with Studio Display plus external webcams), and supports all the big video call apps—FaceTime, Zoom, Teams, and more.
Currently in beta, it's set for official release later this year with macOS Tahoe 26.2.
