Artemis 2 toilet jam, Christina Koch's crew continues moon trip
Technology
NASA's Artemis 2 mission, which blasted off on April 1, just hit a snag: the Orion spacecraft's toilet isn't working right.
A jammed fan is messing with urine collection, but astronaut Christina Koch and her team are still pressing ahead with their 10-day trip around the moon.
Orion backup urine systems protect crew
Thankfully, Orion has backup systems for urine collection, so the crew is covered. The rest of the toilet works fine.
Compared to the Apollo days, when astronauts had to rely on plastic bags, today's waste system uses airflow and is much more advanced.
This hiccup is a reminder that even high-tech missions need solid backup plans as NASA aims for a lunar landing by 2028.
