Astronaut Don Pettit shares orbital time-lapse: green waves, red flashes
Technology
Astronaut Don Pettit just shared a time-lapse from space showing auroras like you've never seen before: think glowing green waves with quick flashes of red high above Earth.
Pettit called the view "Auroras pulsing intensely through this orbital timelapse. Natural light shows! If you look closely, wisps of the higher altitude red auroras briefly appear within the sea of green before fading away, like sprites from a thunderstorm. Watching them never gets old!" and honestly, it's easy to see why.
Pettit likened auroras to thunderstorm sprites
Posting on X, Pettit explained how the auroras constantly shift and even compared those rare red streaks to thunderstorm sprites.
He summed it up perfectly: "Watching them never gets old!"
The post drew several reactions online.
