Brain-powered computers could help make AI more sustainable
Cortical Labs, an Australian biotech startup, wants to shake up data centers by using lab-grown human brain cells instead of regular computer chips.
They unveiled a biological data center in Melbourne, and are teaming up with DayOne Data Centers Ltd. to launch CL1 units in Singapore.
Each CL1 unit uses less energy than a handheld calculator
This move is all about meeting the huge energy demands of artificial intelligence without burning through power.

The Melbourne facility will house 120 CL1 units; the Singapore deployment is planned to roll out up to 1,000 units in phases, beginning with an initial installation at the National University of Singapore's Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
The hope is these brain-powered computers can help make AI both smarter and more sustainable.
