Dario Amodei urges G-7 action after US restricts Fable exports
Anthropic boss Dario Amodei is urging G-7 leaders to team up on AI rules after the US restricted exports of Anthropic's "Fable" model over cybersecurity worries.
He emphasized that democratic countries need to act together to keep advanced AI out of the wrong hands, saying they need to work together, and they need to work together now.
Altman and Hassabis back Amodei
Amodei's message got support from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis.
The US export controls have sparked backlash: Anthropic employees feel the company is being unfairly targeted, which could hurt its IPO plans.
French President Macron also criticized the move, saying it had "clarified the stakes" and warning that leading AI developers could suffer if the government "from one day to the next can turn off the switch."
Despite all this, Anthropic is talking with US officials and hopes things will get sorted so it can keep building safe AI technology.
