Delhi HC seeks answer on Telegram ban before NEET re-exam
The Delhi High Court is pressing the government to explain why Telegram was banned right before the NEET re-exam on June 21.
The app got pulled from app stores and faces restrictions on the message-editing feature for messages already posted until June 30, all to stop cheating and fake papers after a major leak in May.
Three agencies now have to show proof justifying the move.
Justice Karia demands reasons by Thursday
Justice Tejas Karia has told the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the National Testing Agency to present their reasons by Thursday.
Telegram asked for an immediate lift on the ban but was turned down.
Even with restrictions, people can still access Telegram using VPNs.
The next court hearing is set for Thursday afternoon.
