Edward Kang, a 17-year-old from Hackensack, just scored a $175,000 science prize for his project that uses AI to spot signs of autism and ADHD from retinal images.
His work, called RetinaMind, explores whether tech could help with screening for these disorders.
Kang built retinal models probing genetics
Kang didn't stop at computer models. He built retinal cell systems in the lab to explore genetic links behind the patterns his AI found.
By combining digital analysis with hands-on experiments, he even developed a prototype screening tool.
Though still in early stages, Kang's research hints at a future where diagnosing complex conditions is faster and smarter.
