Elon Musk again warns AGI risk could exceed nuclear weapons
Elon Musk is once again sounding the alarm about artificial general intelligence (AGI), warning that it could be even more dangerous than nuclear weapons.
He posted on September 12, 2026, "I've been sounding the alarm on AI for a long time."
Back in April, he'd already called AGI a "significantly higher risk than nuclear weapons," warning that humanity still doesn't fully grasp how risky superintelligent AI could become: these systems might end up beyond our control or understanding.

To help keep things safe, Musk suggests tech companies should review each other's AI models before they're released, kind of like how movies get rated before hitting theaters.
If companies don't act quickly enough, he thinks governments might need to step in.
His call for caution lines up with what leaders at Anthropic and OpenAI have been saying: slow down and make sure we can handle the risks first.
