Elon Musk's X Money beta launch is just around corner
X Money, the payment service built into X (formerly Twitter), is about to open its doors for external beta testing.
Announced by Elon Musk, the beta will roll out in the next month or two for US users ages 18 and older with good-standing X accounts.
The service has been quietly tested internally.
What is X Money?
With X Money, you can send payments right inside the app.
There's a metal debit card (yes, it's real metal) that gives cash back on purchases, and your deposits earn a solid 6% APY, plus FDIC insurance up to $250,000 through Cross River Bank.
It was built with Visa and already has licenses in more than 40 US states.
Shatner auctioned off early access slots for charity
Actor William Shatner got creative promoting the launch by auctioning off 42 early access slots at $1,000 each for charity.
Winners land a $25 gift card and even get $1 from Musk himself, a quirky touch.
Once this beta wraps up, expect a wider global launch.
Smart Cashtags will let you trade stocks, crypto
Soon you'll see "Smart Cashtags" for trading stocks and crypto right from X Money.
But heads up: crypto payments aren't live yet. Those features are still being fine-tuned during this test phase.
