ESA's Mars Express images 30 dust devils in Mamers Valles
Technology
ESA's Mars Express spacecraft just snapped some wild shots of huge dust devils swirling through the Mamers Valles canyon on Mars.
Using its High Resolution Stereo Camera, it caught about 30 active dust devils, marked as yellow dots with pinkish shadows, created when sunlight heats the ground and kicks up towering spirals of dust.
Martian dust devils reach 158km/h
These Martian whirlwinds reach wind speeds up to 158km/h and can stretch as high as eight kilometers, easily dwarfing their Earthly counterparts.
