FDA clears PrecivityAD2 blood test for Alzheimer's in adults 40+
Big news: The US Food and Drug Administration has cleared PrecivityAD2, the first blood test that can spot signs of Alzheimer's disease in people as young as 40 who are showing memory or thinking issues.
Instead of needing a spinal tap or brain scan, doctors can now check for key proteins in your blood and quickly tell if you are negative, likely positive, or positive for Alzheimer's disease.
Study shows 97.6% positive biomarker detection
This could make life easier for about 200,000 Americans dealing with younger-onset Alzheimer's disease.
Developed by researchers at Washington University in St. Louis and fine-tuned by C2N Diagnostics, the test proved its worth in a study, showing it accurately identified 97.6% of positive biomarkers, with results remaining consistent even in patients with comorbidities like diabetes.
As Dr. Randall Bateman noted, "With faster diagnosis, patients can receive earlier treatment, when treatments are most effective."
