Google Maps fixes glitch that confused travelers at Noida airport
What's the story
Google Maps has updated the location of Noida International Airport, fixing a major glitch that caused confusion on the airport's opening day. The navigation app had previously directed passengers to the cargo terminal near Kishorpur village instead of the passenger terminals. This led to several travelers wasting precious time before their flights.
Route error
Google Maps directed passengers to cargo terminal
On the launch day, many passengers were misled by Google Maps into taking a longer route to reach Noida International Airport. Security personnel at the cargo gate had to stop vehicles and inform travelers that they had entered an area meant only for cargo operations.
Increased journey
Misleading directions added extra distance, time, and toll charges
The incorrect route by Google Maps forced travelers to take a detour via the Yamuna Expressway and reach the passenger terminal through the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway link road. This additional journey added nearly 20km to their distance, making them pay toll charges at two plazas. It also increased their travel time by around 30 minutes, as per reports.
Fix implemented
The app now shows the correct route to the airport
The glitch has now been fixed with an update on Google Maps. The app now shows the direct route connecting Noida International Airport with the Yamuna Expressway, allowing for smoother and quicker access to the airport. Commuters heading to the airport are now being directed to the right location, saving them from any further confusion or delays.
