Google Pixel's search bar just went full-screen
Technology
With the November 2025 update, Google Pixel's homescreen search bar now opens a full-screen version of the Google app instead of the usual pop-up.
This intentional change, confirmed on December 17, means you'll see an older-style Google app screen when you tap the search bar—no more translucent overlay with your wallpaper and app suggestions.
What's new—and what's missing?
The new look adds an AI Mode button and Lens, aiming to boost suggestions and make searching smarter.
But you'll lose those handy Pixel-specific shortcuts at the bottom.
If you miss the old layout, you can use the app grid top bar or turn on "Swipe up to start search," though it might mess with your thumb habits.
