Google's new RCS message archiving lands on work-managed Pixel phones

Technology

Google is rolling out Android RCS Archival for company-managed Pixel devices, letting workplaces securely save RCS messages.
This move helps businesses meet legal rules around message storage—especially since older carrier logs don't work with encrypted chats.
The feature is expected to launch in the near future.

How it actually works

IT admins can turn on the feature and hook up apps like Celltrust or Smarsh to Google Messages.
These apps get notified about every message sent, received, edited, or deleted—all while keeping the process on-device and end-to-end encrypted, without sharing data online or with Google.
Employees will see a clear heads-up when archiving is switched on.

Privacy outside work stays safe

Archiving only happens on company-managed Pixels—not your personal phone—so your off-hours chats stay private.
For businesses, it's a simple way to tick all the compliance boxes without giving up modern messaging security.
