India is now a top target for ransomware attacks, says new report
India is facing a surge in ransomware attacks, landing it among the most targeted countries in Asia-Pacific this year, according to Cyble Inc.'s 2025 threat report.
With India's rapid digital growth and booming economy, cybercriminals and even nation-state groups are zeroing in.
As Daksh Nakra from Cyble puts it, these factors make India "a high-value target" for attackers.
Big breaches and rising cyber threats across APAC
The region saw 456 ransomware attacks and over 1,500 data breaches just this year.
In India alone, a major grocery retail breach exposed sensitive info of over 600,000 customers—including Aadhar and bank details—and a separate ransomware hit disrupted services at a big Indian multinational.
There were also more than 400 hacktivist incidents affecting thousands of domains across sectors including government, BFSI, technology, and education.
The message is clear: stronger cybersecurity has never been more urgent.
