India unveils autonomous long-range drone FWD-LM01
India just unveiled its first long-range loitering munition, the FWD-LM01, at the 2025 Paris Air Show.
Built in Bengaluru by Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace, this 6kg drone packs a 2kg warhead and uses AI for autonomous targeting.
It's field-ready in under five minutes—no tools needed.
Can fly up to 100km, stay airborne for 1.5 hours
The FWD-LM01 can fly up to 100km and stay airborne for 1.5 hours, even at altitudes of 17,000 feet.
Its 2m wingspan helps it hover steadily over targets.
High-altitude tests are done; live explosive trials are set for later this year to lock down international certification.
Could boost India's defense tech and weapon exports
This drone is a big step up from India's earlier models with shorter range.
Since it meets global standards and is ready for export, it could cut down on imports and put India on the map for AI-powered unmanned weapons—giving a real boost to homegrown defense tech.
