India's building next-level supercomputers by 2027-28

Technology

India is gearing up to launch its own exascale supercomputers—machines so powerful they can crunch a quintillion calculations every second—by 2027-28.
The National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) has already rolled out 37 supercomputers under the NSM, with increasing indigenous components since 2015, helping thousands of researchers tackle everything from Covid drug discovery to weather predictions.

Why does this matter?

These supercomputers aren't just tech flex—they're fueling real breakthroughs in science and industry, with over 85% of their power constantly in use.
NSM's next phase (NSM 2.0) aims for even bigger speed—2 exaflops—and smarter energy use, thanks to efficient cooling systems.
Plus, the mission will train more than 27,000 people in AI and advanced computing, putting India firmly on the global tech map and opening doors for future innovators.
