Apple iPhone XR: An iPhone X experience on LCD display

Alongside the premium iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, Apple has also launched the iPhone XR. The new cheaper iPhone features an iPhone X-inspired design and is claimed to offer flagship gesture-based experience on an LCD display. Moreover, the iPhone XR packs Apple's latest A12 Bionic processor and comes with support for dual-SIMs. Here's more about iPhone XR's specs, price, and availability in India.

Display
iPhone XR features the most-advanced LCD display yet

iPhone XR sports a 6.1-inch "Liquid Retina" IPC LCD display with a 1792x828 pixels resolution, a pixel density of 326ppi and support for P3 wide-color-gamut, Dolby Vision and HDR10. Further, the phone comes with True Tone display technology that adjusts the color-tone depending on the ambient light. However, there's no 3D Touch, as seen on iPhone 6S and its successors, but a Haptic Touch.

Design
iPhone XR: At a glance

The iPhone XR features an iPhone X-like design with a notched display but with proportional ultra-small bezels. The phone gets a 7000-series aerospace-grade Aluminum frame with a glass back and is IP 67 rated. Up front, there's an iPhone X-like notch with Face ID setup and front camera. On the back, there a single camera module with a quad-LED True Tone flash.

Camera
For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers

The iPhone XR sports a single 12MP (f/1.8) wide-angle camera with OIS, 5x digital zoom, and a Quad-LED True Tone flash with Slow Sync. The primary camera offers features such as Smart HDR, Portrait mode, Portrait Lighting and supports 4K video recording at up to 60fps, and 1080p slow-motion recording at 120/240fps. Up front, there's a 7MP (f/2.2) camera which offers Portrait mode.

Internals
Under the hood

The iPhone XR, like iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, is powered by the 7nm A12 Bionic chip which has a 6-core CPU, a 4-core GPU and comes paired with an 8-core Apple-designed Neural Engine. The phone comes in 64GB/128GB/256GB storage options and will run iOS12. Further, Apple says iPhone XR will last up to 1.5 hours longer than iPhone 8 Plus (2,691mAh battery).

Nitty-gritty
Onboard sensors and connectivity options

In terms of onboard sensors, iPhone XR has Face ID, barometer, three‑axis gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity sensor, and an ambient light sensor. Connectivity options on the phone include Gigabit LTE, dual SIM (nano-SIM and eSIM) support, GPS, VoLTE, GPS, 802.11a/c Wi‑Fi with 2x2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and Lightning port for charging and audio. Moreover, iPhone XR supports wireless charging (Qi standard) and fast charging.

Details
Pricing and Availability

The iPhone XR starts at Rs. 76,900 for the 64GB storage variant. The 128GB and 256GB variants have been priced at Rs. 81,900 and Rs. 91,900, respectively. In India, pre-orders will start from October 19 and shipments from October 26. It will be available in Black, Blue, Coral, White, Yellow and Red colors. Notably, Airtel and Jio will offer e-SIM support in India.
