ISRO to launch BlueBird-6, the heaviest US commercial satellite, in 2025
ISRO is gearing up to launch BlueBird-6—the heaviest American commercial communication low-earth orbit satellite launched by ISRO—on December 15.
Built by AST SpaceMobile, a Texas-based company, and weighing in at 6,500kg, this giant will lift off from Sriharikota and aims to bring mobile broadband straight to people's phones—even in places with no cell towers.
What makes BlueBird-6 special?
BlueBird-6 packs a phased array almost 2,400 sq ft wide, making it 3.5 times larger than its earlier versions. It handles 10 times more data than before.
The satellite arrived in India back in October and is getting prepped for launch on ISRO's LVM3 rocket.
Why does this matter?
With its advanced tech, BlueBird-6 lets you access high-speed internet directly on your phone—no ground towers needed.
This could be a game-changer for remote or underserved areas worldwide.
Plus, the mission highlights growing space teamwork between India and the US as they look to connect more people everywhere.
