Jainendra Jain wins 2025 Wolf Prize for composite fermion theory
Jainendra K. Jain, who grew up in Rajasthan, won the 2025 Wolf Prize in Physics in June 2025, one of the top honors in science and often a stepping stone to the Nobel Prize.
He is being celebrated for his composite fermion theory, which totally changed how scientists understand a key quantum phenomenon called the fractional quantum Hall effect.
Jainendra Jain is Lodha's founding director
Jain's journey started in Sambhar, inspired by stories of Satyendra Nath Bose.
Even after losing his mother and facing an amputation as a child, he pushed through IIT Kanpur and Stony Brook University to make major breakthroughs.
His work not only reshaped condensed matter physics but also helped spark innovations like Microsoft's quantum chip.
He is also giving back as the founding director of Mumbai's Lodha Theoretical Physics Institute to support future Indian scientists.
