What's the story

Lenovo has unveiled a groundbreaking concept laptop, the Yoga Solar PC, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The innovative device has been designed to reduce our dependence on power cables by harnessing solar energy. It comes with an integrated solar panel on its lid that can absorb light from any source and convert it into battery power. However, optimal performance is achieved when used outdoors on sunny days.

Tech details

Solar panel technology and efficiency

The Yoga Solar PC's solar panel features 84 solar cells with a Back Contact cell design. All the mounting brackets and electrical contacts are positioned behind the solar cells, which means they can absorb maximum light from the front. This unique design allows Lenovo to achieve a conversion rate of over 24%, which is higher than most silicon-based solar panels found in consumer electronics today.

Device specs

Yoga Solar PC's performance and specifications

Lenovo says the solar panel can soak enough solar energy to power one hour of video playback after just 20 minutes of direct sunlight exposure. The Yoga Solar PC is powered by an Intel Lunar Lake processor, packs 32GB of RAM, and provides 1TB storage. It is just 15mm thick and weighs around 1kg with its 14-inch OLED display.

Tracking system

Dynamic solar tracking system for optimal performance

To ensure users make the most out of natural light, the Yoga Solar PC comes with Lenovo's Dynamic Solar Tracking system software. The innovative software shows how much current and voltage the solar panel is generating. This way, you can ensure that you are making the most out of available light, whether you are indoors or outdoors.

Additional concept

Lenovo's external solar power kit concept

Along with the Yoga Solar PC, Lenovo has also unveiled an external solar power kit concept. This standalone solution comes with two side-by-side solar panels, which can be attached to a backpack or used independently with a fold-out kickstand. The company has not yet announced plans for mass production of this innovative kit or the Yoga Solar PC.
