What's the story

Google has added a new capability to its Gemini app, but only for Advanced subscribers. With this innovative update, the app can remember and refer to previous chats, giving users more personalized assistance. The feature saves users from starting new conversations from scratch or going through their chat history in the Recent side panel or similar list on mobile. Gemini's rival, OpenAI's ChatGPT can also recall details and preferences from past conversations.

User convenience

Enhancing user experience with chat summaries

The new feature gives users the option to have Gemini summarize previous chats when starting a new conversation. This way, they can ask follow-up questions about things already discussed or continue working on projects already started. The idea is to improve the user experience by making interactions more seamless and efficient, eliminating the need for repetitive information sharing.

Information utilization

Gemini utilizes relevant chat information for responses

Gemini now uses information from relevant chats to generate responses. These responses may show when Gemini uses your previous chats in sources and related content. Users can review, delete, and manage their Gemini chat history at any time by tapping on their profile picture in the top right corner of the Gemini app and then tapping on "Gemini Apps Activity."

Feature expansion

New feature builds on Google's saved info

This latest update expands on the Saved info feature that Google introduced in November. The original feature let users define response preferences, like excluding meat recipes for vegetarians or asking for code in JavaScript. The improved recall capability is being rolled out in English for Gemini Advanced members subscribed through Google One AI Premium and is available on both web and app platforms. Google also plans to expand this feature to more languages and make it available for Workspace Business/Enterprise.
