Meet PUG, America's 1st self-driving police car

Technology

Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office has introduced the PUG, America's first self-driving police car.
Designed by Policing Lab, the PUG comes loaded with 360° cameras, thermal imaging, license plate scanning, and even a drone launcher.
Its main job? To boost awareness and handle routine patrols, allowing officers to focus on more complex aspects of policing.

The PUG patrols pre-set routes and can even engage in conversation

The PUG quietly cruises set routes, acting as a visible crime deterrent and sharing community updates through touch-screen windows.
It's packed with AI analytics, real-time crime data, audio sensors, and more—all in one ride.
But don't expect any high-speed chases; it's built for steady patrolling, not highway pursuits.

Each unit costs between $150,000 and $200,000

The first PUG was donated, but future units will cost $150,000-$200,000 each.
Over the next year, Miami-Dade will see if PUGs actually help with faster response times, officer safety, public trust, and keeping crime in check.
