Microsoft may have to refund millions of customers
Technology
Microsoft may refund millions of dollars to about 2.7 million Australian customers after being called out by the ACCC for not being upfront about cheaper Microsoft 365 plans without its AI Copilot add-on.
Many only found out about more affordable options when they tried to cancel.
Copilot add-ons cost $16 or $18 per month
Copilot add-ons cost $16 or $18 per month, but classic plans were actually available for just $11 or $14—something Microsoft didn't make obvious.
The company has apologized and says anyone who switches from Copilot to a classic plan by the end of 2025 can get a refund on any extra they paid after November 30, 2024.
If the ACCC's case goes further, Microsoft could also face big fines.
