OnePlus to host a special event at CES 2020
OnePlus is sending out invites for a special event that will be hosted at the upcoming CES 2020 in Las Vegas from January 7-10. At present, the nature and purpose of the event is unknown but speculations are rife that the company might launch a new 5G handset or introduce its OnePlus TV in the US. Here are more details.
OnePlus to launch a 5G smartphone in January?
According to mobile and 5G analyst @Saschasegan, OnePlus could launch a new 5G smartphone at CES 2020. The new phone is unlikely to be the OnePlus 8 or 8 Pro, considering they are slated to go official in Q2 next year. However, the company may launch a budget-friendly 5G handset with a Snapdragon 7-series chipset for markets like the US, the UK, and Europe.
Or it could be the OnePlus TV?
Back in September, OnePlus forayed into the smart television segment by globally launching its OnePlus TV Q1 and Q1 Pro models in India. The premium 4K QLED models have done really well in the country, and it's possible that the Shenzhen-based company is looking to introduce the TVs in international markets like the US.
A OnePlus smartwatch is also on the cards
Further, in November, a tipster had claimed that OnePlus is set to enter into the wearables segment with a fitness band or a smartwatch. In fact, in 2015, the tech giant had shared its plans about developing a smartwatch and revealed some early renders of the device with a circular watch dial. However, the project was eventually scrapped. OnePlus is perhaps rebooting its plans.
OnePlus Wireless Earbuds are also coming (but not in January)
OnePlus is also tipped to launch its "Truly Wireless Bullets" sometime in May 2020, presumably alongside the OnePlus 8 series. It is possible that the company could tease the earbuds at the event.
