OpenAI is Apple's biggest competitor, says ex-Apple CEO Sculley

At a recent conference in New York, former Apple CEO John Sculley called OpenAI the first "real competitor" Apple has faced in years.
He pointed out that AI has never really been Apple's thing and suggested it's time for Apple's next leaders to focus on agentic AI—basically, smarter tech that could change how people work and help build new subscription services.

OpenAI acquires AI devices startup io for $6.4 billion

OpenAI just bought io, an AI devices startup, for $6.4 billion in equity. They also brought on Jony Ive—Apple's legendary design chief—to help lead creative projects at both OpenAI and io.
Sculley suggested that Ive's design expertise could bring a new dimension to OpenAI's work.
