    What's the story

OPPO has launched its latest mid-range smartphone in China - the OPPO A3.

The smartphone features a tall, bezel-less display with an iPhone X-like notch, a massive 128GB of inbuilt storage and runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box.

The OPPO A3 is priced at CNY 2,099 (approx. Rs. 22,000) and is available in four color options - black, silver, pink, and red.

    Here's our roundup.

    Design & Display

    At a glance

One of the noticeable features of the smartphone is its rear panel design. OPPO has used 'nano-scale microcrystalline' technology to provide diamond-like triangular patterns underneath the rear glass.

On the front, the phone sports a 6.2-inch full-HD+ (1080x2280 pixels) LCD display with a pixel density of 405ppi and a 19:9 aspect ratio.

The dual-SIM OPPO A3 smartphone measures 156x75.3x7.8mm and weighs 159 grams.

    Camera

For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers

While the OPPO A3 does get the on-trend notch-based display design, it skips on the dual-camera setup - a sort of mainstream feature in today's bezel-less smartphones.

In terms of optics, there's a 16-MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture and dual-LED flash.

On the front, there's an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture for selfies and video calling.

    Storage, Battery

    Under the hood

The phone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 SoC processor clocked up to 2GHz, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of default internal storage (expandable up to 256GB via microSD card).

The smartphone packs a 3,400mAh battery and runs OPPO's proprietary Color OS 5.0 UI on top of the Android 8.1 Oreo.

    Information

OPPO A3: On-board sensors and connectivity options

In term of connectivity options, the smartphone includes 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/A-GPS, Micro-USB with OTG, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. In terms of on-board sensors, you get an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and a proximity sensor.

    Software and AI

From beautification modes to face unlock technology

The OPPO A3 also comes with AI-based beautification and scene recognition features.

Moreover, there is a game mode for uninterrupted gaming, gesture support for the notch-based display, and an AI-powered smart assistant.

Notably, the OPPO A3 is touted to have a face recognition technology that can identify 128 facial points and unlock the smartphone in just 0.08 seconds. Hence, no fingerprint sensor.
