OVHcloud CEO Octave Klaba announces AI models to rival Mistral
OVHcloud, Europe's biggest cloud provider, just announced it is working on advanced AI models to compete with big names like Mistral.
CEO Octave Klaba shared at the VivaTech conference that it became quite clear to us that if we don't master this technology, we can't guarantee our future, especially as governments and companies seek alternatives to US and Chinese AI systems.
OVHcloud plans open source AI models
Thanks to better chips and smarter training methods, a project that might once have cost about €1 billion could now be attempted for €150 million to €200 million.
Instead of making one giant model, they will roll out a series of specialized AIs, without using customer data for training.
One model is already pre-trained using Jupiter, a supercomputer in Europe.
Once these AIs hit their performance goals, OVHcloud plans to make them open source so anyone can use them, a big move toward digital independence in Europe.
